On Sunday the 13th of June, husbands accompanied their wives to attend a family camp organized by the GBV team. The participants were briefed on the importance of building a happy family and how the happiness within the family can, not only improve the well being of the family but contribute towards the development of the community.
The main focus of the programme was to analyse the different factors that contribute towards the unhappiness within the family. In many instances, having analysed the different issues that obstruct happiness do not only point towards domestic violence resulting in alcohol consumption, but reasons could vary from unhealthy communication practices between family members – i.e. varying from being rude, demanding or certain body language characteristics that leave a negative impression in the other’s mind.
These other reasons when analysed revealed that sometimes misunderstandings and not being able to build better relationships between each other, sometimes lead to domestic violence and other family conflicts.
When the participants were grouped and assigned the task of working on the problem tree, they learnt the art of finding reasons to petty issues that often lead to bigger problems. It was a kind of a learning experience for them to untie the knots that were often regarded as ones that were bound to be knotted for life.
The day winded off after some interactive group games encouraging the participation of everyone who were present. |
